DEP Releases 2018 Oil and Gas Annual Report. DEP's 2018 Oil and Gas Annual Report is now available. Specifically, this report includes data and trends related to DEP's permitting and inspection programs. Also highlighted in the report are notable accomplishments achieved during 2018 and a glimpse of what to expect from DEP during 2019. Pennsylvania remains the second-highest natural gas producing state after Texas, with 6.9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas produced in 2019, the Natural Gas Production Report said. Southwestern Pennsylvania has four of the Top 10 natural gas producing counties in the state — Washington (No. 2), Greene (No. 3), Butler (No. 8) and Allegheny (No. 9), the report said. Allegheny County, although representing only 2.4% of the production volume in the state, Pennsylvania’s marketed natural gas production averaged a record 15 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2017, 3% higher than the 2016 level. This production is largely from shale plays in the Appalachian Basin. Pennsylvania accounted for 19% of total U.S. marketed natural gas production in 2017 and produced more natural gas than any other state except Texas.
